This photograph, together with No.1, kick-starts the series 'Timeshifting Prague'. During a recent review of her photographic archive, Avalatara found herself staring at scenes she recognized only now, decades later, through the Bitcoin lens. 

At first glance, 'Timeshifting Prague' is a series of classic black-and-white photographs, showing scenes from Prague between 1997 and 2005. However, upon closer inspection, small glitches in the matrix present themselves in each of the photographs, revealing that Prague's destiny as the European capital of Bitcoin was written long before the whitepaper.

Each photograph of 'Timeshifting Prague' is based on authentic photographs taken on panchromatic black-and-white negative film (35 mm format) in the years 1997-2005 and being developed by hand from the artist herself.

Artist Bio:

Avalatara is a German photographic artist. She first lived in Prague in 1998/99 and returned regularly over the following years, building an analog photographic record of the city across three decades — captured on panchromatic film and developed by hand. In 2020, she discovered Bitcoin as the answer to a question she had long carried: how to escape the abuse of power inherent in hierarchical systems.
