Plaza ceremonial 2 by Oscar Pérez
Artist Name and Artwork Title:
Plaza ceremonial 2 by Oscar Pérez
Description:
His sculptures (Plaza Ceremonial I, II, III) are made of expanded polystyrene (durapax), a material considered waste in El Salvador. By transforming these discarded blocks into cultural artifacts, the work speaks directly about community resilience — creating value and identity from what others see as useless. It’s the same logic that many communities apply when adopting Bitcoin: turning limited resources into new opportunities for autonomy and innovation.
At the same time, the labyrinth-like patterns and hidden structures of the pieces metaphorically evoke cryptography and the cypherpunk ethos. They visually recall encrypted codes, hidden layers, and interconnected nodes — concepts that are at the very core of Bitcoin’s philosophy of privacy and decentralization.
From this perspective, the works do align with the event’s themes and add a strong local dimension: a Salvadoran artist using local materials to open a dialogue with global innovation and the cypherpunk spirit.
